An Introduction

(Note for Amie: For the month of January, a friend challenged me to be a character from my books while online.  I decided to let my character run my blog on each Tuesday of January, just for fun.  On Saturdays, you’ll get the usual me.)

Hello, my name is Cameron Adams, and yes, I am a girl.  (You have no idea how many times someone has expected me to be a boy because of my name.  My parents didn’t know Kamryn was the feminine version of my name.)  I am a fourteen-year-old ranch girl, artist, and sister.  I also know a bit of music, though that’s not my top interest.

I’m second oldest of five homeschooled children, and I spend most my time horseback riding, gardening, and painting.

Amie decided that I should be more outgoing.  I am outgoing…Sometimes.  She decided that I need to be more out there, since I usually walk in Cassy’s (my identical twin) shadow.

So, I’m here, and I’m here to stay…for a long while, at least.  Today I have decided to talk about a subject that takes up most of my time, and that is what my family does for a living.  My father teaches horseback riding lessons for most of the afternoon in the winter, and in the mornings in the summer.  But the rest of his time is taken up in our ranch.

Now, according to the dictionary, a ranch is, “a large farm, especially in the western US and Canada, where cattle or other animals are bred and raised.”  So, if someone tells you that they live on a ranch, they don’t raise crops for money.  We do have a rather large garden, but that’s only to feed ourselves.  When someone says they live on a farm, the dictionary says, “an area of land and its buildings used for growing crops and rearing animals, typically under the control of one owner or manager.”  So, a farm can be crops or livestock.

Anyway, it’s just my pet peeve that sometimes people think that farms and ranches are the same thing.  They are not.

My father always gives us our own “job” on the farm.  I usually have to care for the horses.  We have fourteen horses on our land, which is a lot.  Dad is thinking about selling some…Which is very very sad.  We also have a large amount of cattle and chickens on our land.  We breed chickens and then sell the chicks to neighboring states, and the cows we raise for beef…And we have a few Jerseys for milk.

What is my favorite part about ranch living?  hmm, that’s a very good question.  I love the freedom it gives, even though it is a lot of work.  I like that we have lots of animals to be around, and I just generally enjoy having a lot of room to roam about.

Well, I’m not sure if I should do something more interesting.  Cassy has informed me that this is very boring.  *sighs* I find that I am a boring human being.  Besides, I have work to do.
