What Determines Life?

blur chart check up curve

What determines life?  Is it being a breathing being?  Or is it that we can act, think, feel, and respond to those around us?  Are we alive because of the heart that beats multiple times every minute?

Is it that we can understand math, or that we can test things?  Does life have to do with interests?  Personalities?  Or is it only a physical thing?

What makes us alive?

In the medical field, as soon as the heartbeat stops, you’re dead and it’s called code blue, which means all medical personnel must do anything and everything to revive the person.  The heartbeat determines life.  It’s a symbol of life, and a healthy body.

And yet, in our country, we’re stopping beating hearts.  We’re saying that a heartbeat doesn’t mean that you’re alive.  A heartbeat doesn’t matter.

What do I mean by that?

You can kill a child after you can detect a heartbeat.  A heartbeat in our world doesn’t mean that the child growing inside its mother is alive.  In fact, it just means that a lump of cells are growing inside of the woman, and if she wishes to dispose of them, it’s legal and justifiable.

There are roughly 125,000 abortions conducted each day.

That means 125,000 hearts stop beating.  And if we say that a heartbeat determines life, like people have said for years, we’re killing 125,000 humans.  People.  Babies.  What scares me the most is that they’re being killed by medical personnel.

They’re being killed by the exact same people who would do anything to save the mother’s life if her heart stopped beating.  That would save your life if your heart stopped beating.  And why is this justified?  Why is it okay for them to save me and you, and yet kill that helpless child that hasn’t yet breathed?

It’s the mother’s right to kill her child.  You can’t tell her what to do with her body.  It’s just a lump of cells.  It can’t feel pain.

No, it’s not a mother’s right to kill her child.  Yes, the mother had a right to decide what to do with her body, and she could have decided to have kept herself pure.  But she didn’t, and now there’s a life inside of her.  The baby isn’t just a lump of cells, and it’s not a part of the mother’s body.  Scientifically, at conception, the child is no longer a part of its mother’s body.  It’s a human.  The baby is alive.

In our country, law can be changed by whoever interrupts the law.  And where there are no absolutes, there is no such thing as absolute right and wrong.  That means that if someone says abortion is right, it’s right, and I can’t say it’s wrong.

But I believe in absolutes, and I believe in absolute right and wrong.

And I’m sorry if this is politically incorrect, but…

Murder is absolutely wrong.

Murder is condemned in the Word of God.  If a human life starts at conception, then abortion is murder, and murder is wrong.

I’m not saying this to make anyone guilty.  If you have had an abortion, or have counseled someone to have an abortion, you can be forgiven!  We have a marvelous God who is ready to forgive even the most sinful.  He is willing to save you, if you but confess your sins to Him. (Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:9)

I’m saying that abortion should be stopped in the United States.

Not because I say it’s wrong, or because you say it’s wrong, but because God says it’s wrong.

Where does God say it’s wrong?  In Deuteronomy 24:16 it says, “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.”  Children should not be killed because of the sin of the parents, whether that sin was rape, incest, or deliberate fornication.

Again in Ezekiel 18:20, the LORD says, “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.”

The child is not responsible for what is parents have done, and the child should not be killed.  Killing the child is considered murder.

The wonderful truths behind this is the forgiveness of God.  He forgives freely, and He forgives even the worst of sinners.  He forgives murderers.  If you have never heard the of God’s forgiveness, I encourage you to read the Bible and to find out more for yourself.

If you’re not satisfied with the Scripture I’ve listed today, there are even more passages that deal with murder and the forgiveness of God.

Please stand up to stop abortion.  Stand strong in the face of your peers, or those who disagree with you.  Abortion is an important topic, but as we stand up for it, remember that we are ambassadors for Christ.  We are to show others His love and peace.

Wow, this was SUCH a well-written and much-needed post, Amie! I totally agree with you about everything you said. Abortion is tragic, and I pray it soon will be not just illegal, but unthinkable.

Yes! This post is SO TRUE! How people don’t believe this is murder, I have no clue. But it is super bad. Yes, the woman could have been in bad circumstances, and maybe the child puts her life in danger, but you shouldn’t kill to save. Why do you think people are scarred by war? Killing is horrible, and this is killing.

I must disagree with one point you made, knowing an out-spoken pro-life woman who was raped on a college campus. As you said, ” Yes, the mother had a right to decide what to do with her body, and she could have decided to have kept herself pure. But she didn’t, and now there’s a life inside of her.” this is a choice something some women couldn’t make for themselves. I am staunchly pro-life and the woman I mentioned before decided to keep her baby. Praise God!

I realize that those who are raped have no control over their body, and as I published this post, I knew this would be pointed out. But as Joseph said to his brothers, “What Satan meant for evil, God meant for good.” The child still has a right to live, and perhaps a blessing will come out of a curse.

If ya’ll like Christian movies, there is a pro-life movie coming out called Unplanned (Check out the movie site for more details: https://www.unplannedfilm.com/) coming out in theaters March 29, 2019. It’s about a young abortion clinic director who’s life changed forever after seeing an abortion on ultrasound. Her story is amazing and eye opening!
