Taste Your Tongue

What’s up, folks?  Spring is on its way, making me want to open the windows, but at the same time avoiding it because I don’t want pollen all over everything.  😂  Don’t you wish there was some way to avoid pollen?  Because if there was, I would totally avoid it.

Anyway, today we’re talking about tongues.  Well, really, a tongue.  It’s not my normal post, but hey!  You like lifestyle, strange posts, and today I’m here to bring it to you.

But before we get into the post, I must tell you.  Don’t sit on children’s benches while you’re watching nursery.  The bench might just crumple underneath you.  (Not like I would know from experiance though...I learned from experiance.)

I’m an adventuresome person, especially when it comes to food.  I don’t like eating, but if you must eat, you might as well try something different every time, right?  (As an example, pepperoni, seaweed, and goats cheese is a combo I have actually eaten.)  At least, that’s my philosophy, so I finally managed to convince my mom to buy me this…

Well, it’s actually two cow tongues.  If anyone loves reading books about the West in the 1800s, you should know that bison tongue is considered the best part of the bison.  If that’s what they thought about the bison, why wouldn’t it be true about cow tongues?  And so I’ve wanted cow tongue for a while now.

The tongue comes with the skin still on it, which made my heart so happy.  I’m a weird person, and I spend about five minutes in front of the mirror just looking at the papillae on my tongue, because they’re just so cool.  So the thought of touching the cow’s papillae made me extremely happy.

I pretty much just sat there for a few minutes rubbing my fingers against it and shivering in happiness.  It felt like, AMAZING.

So, the first thing we my mom did after taking it out of the package was throwing it into the crock pot with some onions, and left it cooking overnight.

So, the next morning, my mom took it out, and the next step was skinning it, which was easier than we all thought it would be.  The skin pretty much just fell off of the meat.

And it smelled delicious!  (At least to me, my mom said she got super grossed out while she made it.)  I was impatient for dinner to come so we could try it.  *shivers with expectation*

My mom fried it in a frying pan with more onions, and it kinda just shredded itself.  She served it with horseradish sauce.

We also had delicious greens and French fries with it.  AND GUYS.  CAN I PLEASE HAVE MORE?  It tasted similar to mutton, which is one of my favorites, and yet it still had the delicious beef flavor, and I WANT MORE.  PLEASE?!

So I encourage you to try beef tongue if you’re looking for a new thing to eat.  It wasn’t very labor intensive, and it tasted A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Do you enjoy food posts like this?  What is the craziest thing you’ve eaten?  Do you like new foods?

~~Amie~~

(Yes, two cows were actually harmed in the making of this post.)

Hey!! I. Love. Cow. Tongue. We tried all sorts of unusual foods while we were leaving in Japan and this was one of the ones we really, really enjoyed. This makes me hungry just reading it! My brother also managed to eat cow brains…yeah, I wouldn’t recommend that one. Probably the craziest thing I’ve ever eaten is horse meat. If you can get past the thought that you’re eating a horse, it’s amazing. It is so rich and there’s like zero fat! (And it’s super good in curry!)
Okay, that comment was a rollercoaster. We love strange foods, haha!

Rabbit trail….from the actual topic of your post….are you allergic to pollen in the air?

I have a friend who is allergic to pollen and they are miserable in the spring and summer months because of it. But their mom found out that Birch Water: (freshly tapped birch water from birch trees) is a great way to relieve the allergic reactions. She freezes the birch water in icecube trays and then my friend eats an icecube a day. They somehow have relief from the pollen during the day. Crazy I know. Just thought to suggest it….they have been doing it for many years now.

Wow. Yeah, my nose just burns, and my eyes water like crazy. I also get random coughing fits which are really bothersome. I might have to look the up…

Kaitlyn has pollen allergies and needed allergy medicine for a while. She just started using an essential oil pill (that is safe to ingest) and works well!! Praise God! ❤ So anyway, just wanted to add my experience here too, in case you'd like to check out some other options. 🙂 Birch tree water sounds really interesting….I need to tell my mom about that for sure! Hey, whatever works! 😉

Great post! I wouldn’t think that cow tongue tastes very good, but now I’m curious to try it! The weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten was a bite of Kangaroo Jerky. (My mom was appalled XD) but it honestly tasted similar to regular beef jerky!

THAT WAS BY FAR THE WEIRDEST FOOD POST I’VE EVER READ. But hey, it sure was interesting! Although I do like touching things, I don’t think I like it THAT much. :’D I do know how rough cow tongues feel from feeding calves and cows in the past, though. It’s almost like soft sandpaper, right?
I’m glad it turned out well! It does sound pretty good, if I could get past the fact that I’m eating a tongue. 😛 I love trying new foods… unless they’re meat. Then I’m skeptical. XD Hey, if you like eating strange parts of cows, you should try tripe! It’s pickled cow stomach. IT TASTES HORRIBLE. To me at least, but, I mean, some people like it. *shrugs*
(Also the last sentence in this post… :’D)

I’m sorry… I will never try cow tongue. The idea grosses me out, and after making friends with lots of cows and seeing where they lick… yeah, it grosses me out even more. And I love animals, so I can’t imagine eating a tongue because it seems much more personal than just any old slice of meat.

Okay……So maybe I wasn’t expecting this but I really liked it! I think the most crazy thing I have eaten, which is not really so crazy is chicken liver. I LOOOOVE CHICKEN LIVERS!!!!! I have friends that have eaten iguana *shudders* I don’t think I could eat a lizard! XD Wonderful post!

EWW EEWW EEEEWWWW AMIE YOU TOUCHED IT??? I’ll admit I like feeling interesting, sometimes squishy things but NOT RAW MEAT! UGH I HATE RAW MEAT! And you don’t like the texture of jello. AHH! But I’m glad it tasted good. BUT UGH I COULDN’T STAND THAT! (Now I’m off to cook up some ground beef. Sigh. I suppose raw meat is slightly unavoidable.)

Oh my goodness LOL I’ve never tried cow tongue, but I’m pretty sure that if I ever do, I’ll be too busy cracking up over the memory of your enthusiasm for tongue papillae. But when I saw the images for this post I was like “OH NO DID SHE MURDER SOMETHING” but yeah you didn’t so… 😛

I used to have INSANELY bad allergies around this time of year – the moment I would walk out the door, my face would flare up, my nose would run, my head would pound, and my eyes would water.

I’m a lot better now. I had to get allergy shots once a week for four years though…

I am simultaneously intrigued and grossed out by the thought of eating cow tongue. Curiosity usually wins over for me….maybe I’ll try it someday.

You’ve inspired me to make a post about me trying every weird food I can think of lol.

Oh dear. I’ll try to avoid allergy shots. I never had allergies when I was younger, and then I got older, and I do. (Which is wonderful. 🙄)

I love your food posts, so do a weird food post! And someday you should eat cow tongue. *nods*

Wow thank you that I’m not the only person that spends an excessive amount of time looking at her tongue 😂 Tongues really are amazing. And I too would love to feel cow tongue, it looks weird but fascinating. I don’t know if I would be able to eat it… I probably would.
The weirdest thing I ever tried was caviar. It was… terrible. Mostly the texture and thought of eating fish eggs, I didn’t even taste it really 😂 but at least now I can say I’ve had it!
