LLIL Part!

So, after a very long time, I’m here to give you the next part of Lovely Links in Literature.  Today, It’s by Cailyn.  If you haven’t read all of LLIL, please check it out here.  Now, on to the story.

Dustin froze as his own eyes met this girl’s large, terrified, yet daring, chocolate brown eyes.

She reminded him of someone he’d loved…..and lost. Suddenly a flashback claimed him.  A slender, beautiful woman with laughing chocolate brown eyes…..identical to this girl’s eyes, and long, golden brown hair that streamed out behind her as she ran. She was pulling his hand as they raced through a lush, green meadow speckled with wild, yellow and purple flowers, and he couldn’t help laughing – her laughter was contagious. They came to halt at an overhang providing a widespread view
of a valley with scattered heifers grazing.

“Right there. There is where I want to build our house.” The lady said with an arch smile at her husband standing next to her, while pointing to a hilly incline around which the heifers were grazing contentedly. The young husbad smiled tenderly at his wife.

“We’ll have chickens…”

“And geese….”

“And heifers….”

“And horses!”

“And guineas….”

“And we’ll raise our family.” She finished with a smile overflowing with genuine joy.

He snapped back into reality and realized that he’d been staring at the girl for several minutes. For the first time, he noticed four kids behind the girl. A tall, red haired boy about 16, a shorter, dark haired boy with quizzical blue eyes and an infectious grin, a young girl with long, reddish brown hair and large, confused eyes, and a tall, chestnut brunette standing directly behind the girl glaring fiercely at

Kyrie was extremely confused. Her father was standing smack-dab in front of her and
one moment he was angry, the other – well, she wasn’t exactly sure what he was doing now. He was just…staring at her. For no obvious reason. It was getting a little creepy. The look in his eyes wasn’t anger or fear that he’d be caught, but a look of remembrance. Like she reminded him of someone. Jill took a step closer and whispered into Kyrie’s ear,

“Ok, I don’t know about you, but this guy – even though he is your father – is Creeping.Me.Out.” She said stressing the last few words.

“Yeah, I know. I don’t think he’s angry right now though; matter-of-fact, I’m not exactly sure what mood he’s in.”

“Come on! He’s going to come out of this reverie he’s in and try and take those papers back!” Ed said grabbing Jill’s and Kyrie’s hand and racing in the opposite direction. Kyrie chanced a furtive glance behind her and noticed her father had indeed ‘snapped out of his reverie’ and was running after them.

Ed too had noticed and suddenly veered into an alley with Phil and Alec close behind.

“Ed! I don’t know if this is safe! Shouldn’t we just head home?” Jill yelled as they raced down the alley.

“Well, do you want him to find out where we live and come take those papers back when we aren’t there to stop him?”

Jill exchanged a glance with Kyrie. With a sigh, Jill muttered “No, of course not.”

“In here!” Ed said suddenly slipping into an empty building with an old, wooden door hanging open by rusty hinges. They all were bent over double trying to regain their breath from their exhausting run.

Kyrie straightened up and looked around. “Hmm….” She murmured as she scrutinized the dilapidated building; part of it looked like it’d been partly burnt years ago. As her friends were discussing how and where to hide the newspapers, she noticed an old iron door that was probably immovable in its day.

Carefully she pushed it open. With a groan it swung open to reveal a large room with windows so high only eagles could look in. “Wow….” She breathed in awe. The room was empty except for a couple old, broken chairs and a few metal file cabinets against the wall in the corner. Spinning around slowly she gazed around her surroundings, until her attention was suddenly riveted on one particular wall.

“What in the world….” Drawn and written all over one wall, was dates and events in history. History of this town. “Ulysses S. Grant….1863….wait what?!” She gasped. Running her eyes over the wall, she picked out other famous names. Robert E. Lee. Amelia Earhart. Abraham Lincoln. Her eyes lighted upon one name in particular that arrested her immediate attention. Samuel A. Brink – Colonel in Civil War and Governor of Riverdale, born 1825, died 1915.

“Who is Samuel A. Brink? He is most certainly related to me, but how?”

“Kyrie? Kyrie! Where are you?” A multitude of voices joined in, echoing Jill’s call.

“In here guys! Come check this out!” She yelled back, her voice echoing loudly off the impenetrable stone walls. The sound of running feet accompanied her voice as everyone rushed in the massive room.

“What is this place?”

She smiled at their surprised and inquisitive faces that most certainly were identical to her own face when she entered this room.

“Good question guys. I have no idea what this place is, but look at this wall.” Four people crowded around her staring at the wall in undisguised surprise. “There are names and dates of people who have passed through this town or lived in this town hundreds of years ago. Look at this one name.”She said pointing to Samuel A. Brink – Colonel and Mayor.

“Is he one of your ancestors?” Ed asked curiously.

“I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure he is, but why haven’t I ever heard of him? Wouldn’t my family be proud of the fact that one of our ancestors was a Mayor AND a Colonel?” Kyrie said with a frown creasing her forehead.

“That’s a good point. If we had someone famous in our genealogy, I know I’d want to share that! I’d be proud of the fact.” Alec said in agreement.

“What if he was famous, but something or someone later destroyed his good reputation because they were jealous of him and hated his stance of fame?” Jill asked. Kyrie sighed.

“Hey! Maybe we can find something about any of these people in those old, rusty cabinets over there.” Ed said energetically.

Phil had been very quiet in the last few minutes, but now she spoke up. “What if they don’t know?” Every head turned toward her inquisitively. Phil saw their confusion and sighed. “I mean, what if his story of fame and heroism was forgotten or regarded as a tall tale, so it was passed down – but only as a story?”

Kyrie stared at Phil for a second, then her eyes widened. “I remember Aunt Clara telling me a story about a young man whose parents died, and he had no ties left to bind him to home, so he left and joined the army.” She furrowed her brow again, but eventually sighed. “I don’t remember any more of the story, but I can ask Aunt Clara to tell me the story when I get home. Oh no! Home! Aunt Clara doesn’t know where I am!”

“Oh, I meant to tell you. My Mom called me several minutes ago, and told us to have fun, but that your Aunt and Grandma had left town on an unexpected errand.”

Kyrie raised her eyebrow. “MY Aunt and Grandma? They NEVER go anywhere. Especially out of town. Wonder what happened…” She trailed off.

“Don’t worry. It’s ok. I’m sure nothing’s wrong; they probably just got a call from an old friend who’s nearby. Or something.” Jill added at the end after noticing Kyrie’s face.

“Oookkk. Let’s look in those file cabinets now.” Ed said attempting to dissolve Kyrie’s look of worry about the news of her Aunt’s and Grandma’s sudden, unexpected departure. He had been squirming impatiently for the last several minutes with the urge to explore the old files.

“Ok. Fine, Ed. Let’s look.” Phil said following Ed. At the statement that they were going to explore the old cabinets, Kyrie’s spirits rose a bit. She’d learned to tolerate – if not thoroughly enjoy – adventures after these past few adventures. Ed reached the files first
and opened the first drawer. Revealing tons of old, musty files…..with a few newer ones?

“What are you doing?” They all spun around, Ed with his hand still on the drawer handle, to face a tall slender girl with a head full of raven black hair and astonishingly blue eyes – furious eyes with a tinge of surprise and fear, facing them with her hands angrily on her hips.”

Don’t know where this came from.  Ask Cailyn.

*Note: LLIL has not been edited, even though a very nice reader has sent me all the edits.

Welcome, 2018!

Guys, I’ll only be able to say that once!  So, let’s just sit and marvel at that.

Okay, that was enough marveling.  You are all sitting on the edge of your seats because I am releasing the first part of…..LLIL!!  But that isn’t the most exciting thing I’ll be doing.  However, here’s a sneak peek.

If you had been walking down Elm Grove Street in Abbeyton, you might have heard the hoarse voice in number 73.  Old Mrs. Landers was nearly deaf and blind, and wasn’t much help to her spinster daughter in the raising of her granddaughter.  One thing she did help with was making sure Kyrie did her school work.

Yep, it’s going to be great.  First, however, you must endure with me as I introduce….

Yes!  I started a blog with my little sister, Rose!  We are doing a collab blog, and finally started it just in time for the new year!  But, as a result, I won’t be posting on Thursdays anymore.  At least, not after this Thursday. 🙂

Just click that button up there or this link here.  You’ll be transported to a blog where our dolls rule…much to our chagrin *grimaces*.  I think you’ll enjoy it as much as…

Lovely Links in Literature!  Yep, just click that link or look up at my menu up there.  It’s finally out and you can read it!  I actually finished it before Christmas! *gasp*  How many of you are always scrambling because you put things off?  Well, that’s usually me, but not this time!  Folks, go check it out!

And one quick side note.  For you who are bloggers and are participating in LLIL, please tag your post using the tag LLIL. Thanks!

Also, I’m announcing the very first…

Amie Quote of the Year

Yep! So, what you as my followers have to do, is go and find your favorite quotes of me this year.  Once I have them all (which is be next week)  I’ll do a poll.  Or, I could just find quotes I like if no one participates.

Once you have chosen the quote from a blog post/page, copy it, and comment down below with it.  It’s simple…sorta.

Either way, happy New Years and happy reading!

The updated LLIL list!

Hello folks!  It’s snowing today outside and on my blog!  Check out the little wittle snowflakes!  Aren’t day cute?  Okay, back to serious mood.  Here is the list without further delay.

Amie (again xD)

Yep!  I’m going to start and finish.  And now you’re dying to know when the first part will be posted, right?  Well….

On January first!

Yep!  New Year’s day!  A great way to start 2018.  Can anyone believe it’s almost 2018? :0  I don’t know that I can.  But regardless, on that day you can all sit around and watch for the most amazing story.

As you all know, I have the rules and stuff but that isn’t important.  I just want you to remember…

A. You have to write 1,000 words or more.

B. You have two weeks to do that.  No more.  If it’s late, you’ll get thousands of emails from yours truly.

C. I don’t remember what C was about now.  I think I’m having a momentary brain freeze.  Some one needs to help me.  Um…..

Okay!  So, ignore C but make sure you note A and B.  Those are really important.

Yes!! It’s snowing here.  Isn’t it exciting?  I just hope we have enough to take pictures of.  Snow is so photogenic, at least on the first day.

From the cold south,

LLIL Update! (Plot)

Okay, so I promised an orderly plot update for Lovely Links in Literature.  There was a lot of brainstorming last Tuesday and Wednesday.  I want to thank you all for your interest and thoughts concerning this simple story.

In Abbeyton it’s time for the election!  The mayor (he’s unnamed) doesn’t seem worried about his rival.

During that time, the Worth’s meet Kyrie.  Together they are digging in the attic(or somewhere else.  Depends whose writing this part)  of Kyrie’s house.  They find this journal of a young lady by the name of —–.  I know, she’s unnamed.

Unnamed happens to write about something very important.  That clue leads to the children falling into scrapes, finding out why the mayor isn’t worried, who Kyrie’s mother is…and more!  It’s a pretty flexible plot so you don’t find it annoying.  We are in this together!

Sorry it’s so short but I just wanted to update you!  Here’s the list.  Hab was moved down so you should make sure you like where you’re placed!

And now for the rules!  We only have five more days to sign up!  GUYS!  ONLY FIVE MORE DAYS!

You have until December sixth to take your name off, not that you’d want to!  If you want more info, just look in the LLIL category of my blog!

Hurrying out of here,

Lovely Links in Literature

Hey!  It’s finally Tuesday.  I know you’ve all been up just wondering who the characters of LLIL are.  No?  You were just patiently waiting?  Oh.  Then never mind.  I’ll just go on with the post whether you were waiting for it or not.IMG_6186

Today I promised to introduce the main characters but first I’m going to clarify a few things.  I know, you have to wait longer.  Actually, you have my permission to go read the characters first if you come back and read this.

Okay, #1 is…The chapter length.  I’m not even really sure about this myself but since you’re only doing one chapter, you should be full of ideas that are about to burst.  I would like each chapter to be at least 1,000 words.  What?  Why are you guys gaping?

#2 is a question of how you are supposed to know it’s your turn.  I’ll give you an email (It just so happens I have all your emails) or message you if you have a blog.  Regardless, you do not have to worry about it.  I’ve got it under my belt.

#3 is how long do you have to write it?  Well, two weeks.  You have two weeks and if it takes you longer you will —-.  If it takes you longer, you can just contact me and I totally understand.

#4.  I’m going to make sure every one knows that there is to be NO romance or fantasy.  This is to be a fun and cute story (fantasy is fun and cute but…) not full of romancey disgustingness.

#5.  You are allowed to introduce other characters.  Guys, this is your story as much as mine.  I’m just the coordinator who gives you ideas.  I want this, when you read it, to be something we are all proud of.  Something we can all say, “This is our story.”  I don’t want you to say, “This is Amie’s story I just happened to help with.”

And that is all!  Oh, wait.  I forgot one.  Wait a moment…

#6.  You are allowed to use Scratch, Word, Pages… the list goes on… if you notify me before you use it.  It’s going to be awesome whatever form you use (or even if you post it on your blog) but I need to know what you are using.  I mean, if you’re a blogger, I’m going to assume you’re using your blog.IMG_6187

And now that is officially all the clarifications.  I’ll place the list so far and the rules at the very bottom of this list.  Now, all who did not skip, I’m giving you a high-five!  I’m proud of y’all.  Anyhow, now to the characters.

Kyrie Noel Brink

Kyrie is a lonely orphan that lives with her old grandmother and prim and proper aunt.  She’s never had any adventures worth recounting (there is that time she was in the middle of a food fight…) but that soon changes.

She enjoys mostly books, shopping, and getting good grades.  She’s good-humored and doesn’t often get ruffled.  Her main fear is displeasing her aunt, who is very strict.  She isn’t one to say she won’t do something and just goes with the flow.

She’s fourteen with blonde long hair, green eyes, and a rather sour look.  She’s just used to sitting still and doing nothing.

Christian Alexander Worth

Christian, or Alec as he’s known, is the oldest of the Worth quartet.   He is the leader of the escapades and hasn’t seemed to grow up.  He lives next door to Kyrie with his family.

Alec enjoys sports but his favorite is track.  He is a born runner.  He’s the one that goes sniffing around for adventure and dashing into it recklessly.

He’s seventeen and considers himself a man. (Much to Jill’s annoyance!) He has red hair, freckles, and blue eyes.

Jill Morgan Worth

Jill is the oldest daughter and probably the most responsible.  She is as much of a leader as her brother, so they often butt heads.  She sometimes worry about the thoughts of her peers, but mostly she’s as eager for adventure as all her siblings.

Jill tends to be on the bossy side, with a bit of caution mixed in.  She enjoys music, photography, and fashion.  She likes her camera so much, that her brother’s have titled it her “BCF”  or otherwise known as best camera forever.

Jill is fifteen with darker hair, light eyes, and freckles.

Edmund Timothy Worth

Ed was named after his mother’s favorite book series. (*sighs in happiness*  Guys, I want to name my kid Edmund!)  Ed is always prepared, carrying around what Alec kindly refers to as his ‘man purse’.  (Two of the articles in the purse are a knife and flashlight.)

Edmund is the witty one of the family; every ready for a quick come back.  He tends to be a bit of a sass king but at heart is brave and full of determination.  He isn’t as athletic as Alec, but he still enjoys outdoor activity.

Ed has dark hair like his older sister and blue eyes.  He’s fourteen, but according to Jill acts younger.

Philadelphia Elise Worth

Phil often wishes she had a nicer name.  NO ONE is named Philadelphia or Elise, but it turns out Philadelphia is where her parents met.  She’s the youngest Worth and often feels neglected or slighted.  She hardly ever finds her voice listened to.

She enjoys animals of any kind.  She has her own bunny and they have a family dog.  She also really likes any boyish sport, especially baseball.  She is ever ready for a tumble in the mud or a fist fight, evidence of her temper.  She’s outgoing and kind, nonetheless.

Phil has red hair and green eyes with freckles.  She’s eleven and often complains eleven is old enough to be treated like a grown-up.

So, how did you like them?  Are they worth writing a story about? (Lol, are the Worth’s worth writing about?  Wait, I only thought that was funny?  Never mind.)  Which one is most like you?  Which one do you think you’d like writing for the best?

IMG_6186Okay, here’s the list of who’s writing so far.  Remember, if you want to write, all you have to do is comment down below.  It’s easy and simple.  Also, you are allowed to take your name off the list until December 6th, three days after the signing up ends.

Olivia Bell a.k.a Livy

If you want to be on this list, you must comment or contact me before December 3rd!!!!!!!

Do you understand?  Good, I’m, glad you do.  I hope some more sign up, because even though this is an amazing list, I’m selfish and want more people to join.  If any of you know of some writer friends that might want to join, go ahead and tell them!

Remember.  The more the merrier.IMG_6187

Okay, know for the rules (of course you all have memorized them!)

  1. There is to be no witchcraft.
  2. There is to be no bad words (this is for all ages to read.)
  3. and lastly…I have the right to request you to change some of the content of your part of the story.

See, I only have a few rules.

IMG_6186Next Tuesday, I will be giving a rough idea and some prompts for you guys to look at and think about.  I know what I want this book to be, but it’s y’all’s book as much as mine, so I want you to add your own creative touch.

See ya!  Oh, and remember to comment 😉
