Hiding It In Our Hearts

On Saturday, while sitting in the Urgent Care exam room in extreme pain, I realized why we memorize scripture and hymns.  I was to the point of being totally out of it because of the pain level when my mom told me to sing my blessing’s song.  With a trembling voice, I started.

When He was among us-All that He said-All of His goodness-And all of His love–If the pen of the writer–Could write everyday–Even this world–Could never contain–How I’ve been blessed.

The words seemed just to come.  I don’t know where they came from.  All I know is I memorized that hymn.  “He Leadeth Me” soon followed with the same voice, shaky with frequent pauses.

The Lord tells us to hide His word in our hearts.  Why?  When the doctor came in and told me I needed to go to the hospital, I felt my heart sinking.  I hate hospitals…everything about them.  Some of the worst memories trace back to hospitals.  But, I was in so much pain, I didn’t care.

The thing that scared me the most was the reason.  I let one tear of self-pity slide down my cheek before I heard in my brain, “Be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid, neither by thou dismayed, for I the Lord your God am with you, whithersoever thou goest. (Joshua 1:9)”

I grasped that piece of truth.  I wasn’t alone.  It didn’t matter how much I felt alone, how much the pain yanked at me.  I had my Best Friend, my Comforter there with me.  I kept saying to over and over.  Then other verses flooded into my mind. “I am the good Shepard, the good Shepard giveth his life for the sheep.(John 10:11)

“Low, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. (Matthew 28:20)”.

I grabbed each verse as a hungry person would a morsel, or a drowning person a life raft.  Why do we memorize?  So that in hard times when Satan assails us, we will not fear him.  Instead, we will be comforted by God’s Word.

I want to encourage you to hide God’s Word in your heart.  You will never regret hiding those precious words in your heart.  When troubles assail you, when you’re tired, when you’re angry…a simple reminder of God’s word helps so much!  Memorize God’s Word.

On a less serious note, I will tell you about my writing.  Hehe, I announced my last book, but work on that has stopped.  Why?  Because it didn’t really have a point.  Maybe someday I will return to it, but right now I’m knee-deep in the planning of the sequel to the book I wrote for NaNoWriMo.

I hope to be revealing a little bit of my work sometime soon.  It’s a little tiring to think of all I’m studying for the next book.  I’ll give you a hint to where it’s takes place. Deutschland.

    Ok, I won’t ask what happened, but I’m so glad you’re okay and that God took care of you. 💕
    I can’t wait to hear about your story! I bet it would take a lot of research, especially if it’s historical fiction! Praying for complete recovery. 💗

    Oh my goodness, I am so sorry, Amie! Praise the Lord you are recovering! Yes, memorizing is such a comfort in times of trouble, I’ve always wanted to memorize but never really done it until recently, but since I’ve started it’s been such a wonderful thing! I’m praying for you, I’m so sorry you were so sick! 😮

    Amie I’m so so glad you’re okay! When I was in the hospital with appendicitis, it calmed me so much singing hymns and praises to Jesus–you will never ever regret having God’s word and songs hidden in your heart! It’s one of the best things you can do! ❤ ❤
